2010 Feline Practitioner's Research Grant

2010 Grant Recipient:

"Nutrient-Gene Interactions in Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy"

CRITERIA FOR GRANT SELECTION
  1. Completed application.
  2. If animals are used, IACUC guidelines will be followed.
  3. Clinical significance.
  4. Likelihood of valid findings based on experimental design and statistical analysis.
  5. Review of literature and references.
  6. Only non-euthanasia studies will be funded.
  7. Strong preference will be given to funding complete research projects, rather than partial funding of a project. This does not preclude matching funds.
  8. Preference will be given to funding clinical studies utilizing patients, rather than research animals.
  9. Grant proposals requiring greater than 20% of the grant is for technical support salaries will not be considered.
  10. Preference will be given to grant proposals utilizing clinical patients rather than proposals for methodology development.

Summary of the obligations for grant recipient:

The recipient is required to sign an agreement form outlining an approximate timetable of research before a check will be forwarded. The recipient must acknowledge the AAFP in any publication of the data derived from the project. The recipient must give a presentation of research findings and related clinical material at the AAFP Annual Meeting.


Timeline of grant recipient deadlines

July 1, 2011 (18 Months) Recipients must submit a 1,500-word progress report to the AAFP Research Committee for presentation at the AAFP annual fall meeting and inclusion in the AAFP newsletter.

July 15, 2012 (Two and a half years) Recipient must submit a summary of research findings to the Research Committee.

September, 2012 (Two and a half years) Recipient must give a 45-60 minute presentation of their research findings and related clinical material at the AAFP Annual Meeting. Travel and accommodations will be reimbursed according to the AAFP Travel Reimbursement Policy.

January 2012 - Within three years of receiving the grant, a final report of at least 5,000 words must be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. A journal reprint should be forwarded to AAFP.
