Drs. John Kruger and Jane Merrills at Michigan State University are conducting a new clinical trial for cats with lower urinary tract disease.
Study Description
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Michigan State University is offering four new controlled clinical trials for qualifying feline patients. These four studies will be looking at effects of dietary intervention on:
- Prevention of feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC),
- Calcium oxalate urolith prevention,
- Sterile struvite urolith prevention, and
- Sterile struvite urolith dissolution.
All study related costs will be free of charge to owners. They will receive free cat food for 2 months or up to 2 years depending on which study they qualify for. Patients will also receive complementary routine lab-work and radiographic studies at various times throughout the study period, as well as monetary incentives.
We are relying on the veterinary community to partner with us in identifying patients for this dietary trial. If you have a feline patient with FIC, or with bladder stones, or with recently removed bladder stones, we would be happy to evaluate them for entrance into the trial.
