Informatics
The informatics committee facilitates the use of digital communication resources for the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
History:
This committee was formed in the mid-1990s to help establish a presence for the Feline Practitioners Association on the internet, first as a page on the AVMA website and then as a stand-alone website. Dr. Diane Eigner was instrumental in leading this early effort.
As we entered the new millennium, Dr. Sherri Williams expanded the association’s utilization of internet resources through our alliance with The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) and student chapter re-vitalization. In 2004, she created an area within VIN that Feline Practitioner members and students could access and use for monthly feline topic rounds, message boards, and a growing library of publications.
In June of 2006 the Feline Practitioners Association purchased the URL CatVets.com and Dr. Deb Givin embarked on a project of website re-development to utilize this new asset and make it easier for Feline Practitioner Informatics committee members to have direct control of website changes. The Informatics Committee in the Fall of 2007 is now able to offer interested volunteers clear roles with variable levels of time commitment and responsibility.
